These two things have always been true: Emmet and Ingo work best together and there is something watching over them.

This is not unusual in itself. Siblings often work side by side, and people, pokemon, or even the occasional legend have watched over others since recorded history. What's unusual is that no one is quite sure what exactly it is and when it started.

Emmet cannot remember a time without it. As a child, he was often tucked in by it. Regardless if someone had already had or not. He remembers clearly on the first day of school, that it fussed over his and his brother's hair. Brushing it back. Tucking strands behind his ears. Until it deemed them presentable enough to march off to school.

It soothed the both of them when they scraped up their knees. Ushered them back when they got too far into the tall grass. Patted their shoulders after every accomplishment, even if it was just passing a retaken test.

The adults always called it a blessing. They theorised that it may be a certain pokemon. The guesses ranged from ghost types to playful mythicals.

Emmet never particularly cared what it was, neither did his brother.

It did not matter what it was or what it looked like. It was a friend and that was all.

It followed the two into adulthood. Making sure they've eaten and celebrating with them over the major events that happened to almost every human being. Their graduation. Their first job. Their first promotion. Their second. And so on.

It fawned over their pokemon. It made sure that they didn't miss any spots when dusting. It straightened their ties and hats before every meeting and evaluation. It made sure the keys were put in the right place. It still tucked them in occasionally much to Emmet's disgruntlement.

It did not find his brother.

To be fair, nobody found his brother. This did not help.

Emmet was upset at it at the time. To be fair, he was upset with everyone. This does not excuse anything.

It still tried to help, even when Emmet blamed it. It brought him food. It helped care for their pokemon. It kept the house clean. It did not hesitate to hug him when Emmet cried.

Time does eventually continue on, despite the reluctance from some of the world's participants.

He's able to respond to the messages from his brother's friends. He is able to slow down and meet up with his own friends. He is able to enjoy battles again.

While Emmet and Ingo work best together, they are both still separate people and Emmet is able to keep everything running smoothly.

This does not mean he stops looking.

He is contacted by gym leaders, by champions, by the international police, by professors and organizations. Long after the event, he gets an e-mail from Lenora. It contains a message and a picture. It is then that he finally feels like he has a tangible lead.

He hears it shuffling files of paperwork next to his computer, careful and meticulous about the order it's in. It is then Emmet feels like he should have paid more attention to the adults' theories on what it was.

He has the dawning feeling that he might have taken some things for granted, and he might know exactly where his brother eventually ended up.

Ending Authors Note: My penchant of writing run on sentences vs writing in Emmets POV.
